This manual describes the program, activities, and application procedures for juvenile corrections training by the National Institute of Corrections' National Academy of Corrections.
Abstract
The National Academy of Corrections, the training division of the National Institute of Corrections, began operations in Boulder Col., on October 1, 1981, and is in its tenth year of providing training for State and local practitioners working in adult corrections. In January 1991, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention provided funds for the National Academy of Corrections to provide training and other services to juvenile corrections practitioners. This manual provides general information on facilities, accommodations, transportation, and costs; eligibility and application procedures; and needs assessment. The descriptions of seminars for juvenile corrections practitioners cover correctional leadership development, training for trainers, and treatment skills for professionals who work with sex offenders. Other academy activities described are the National Forum for Correctional Executives, regionalization, audio-conferences, conference workshops, short-term technical assistance, and the National Correctional Training Network. Applications for training are included.
