The Training Desk Reference was developed by the Standards and Certification Section of the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to assist chiefs of police, sheriffs, agency administrators, and training coordinators in the discharge of their duties related to employment and training standards for their criminal justice personnel.
Abstract
The Training Desk Reference was prepared as a quick, accessible resource for agency heads in the discharge of their duties relating to the employment and training standards of criminal justice personnel. The existing “Criminal Justice Training Reference Manual” is the primary, comprehensive manual of rules, policies, and procedures that have been adopted by the Criminal Justice Board and DCJS. Employment and training issues are covered in this manual. In the employment section, three issues are reviewed: conditions of employment, registration of employment and registration of change of status. The training issues sections covers fifteen areas: compliance with minimum training standards, forfeiture of office for failing to meet training standards, entry-level training, exemption of compulsory minimum training standards, reporting completion of academy/exemption training, field training, certification of law enforcement officers and regional jail officers, de-certification of law enforcement officers and regional jail officers, compulsory in-service training, partial in-service training, extensions, instructor certification, instructor recertification, college courses, and radar operator training guidelines. The Training Desk Reference provides a list of contact people within the Standards and Certification Section. For each area/issue a primary and secondary contact is listed. Appendices provide regional maps, a summary of training requirements for part-time and auxiliary officers and deputy sheriffs and examples of DCJS forms.
