RESULTS OF A STUDY TO DETERMINE THE DIRECT EFFECT ON JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER TRAINEES OF A BEHAVIORAL TRAINING PROGRAM.
Abstract
IN A SAMPLE GROUP STUDIED, NINE JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICERS RECEIVED SIX WEEKS OF TRAINING IN BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION, WHILE NINE OTHERS DID NOT. THE TRAINED GROUP DID NOT DIFFER SIGNIFICANTLY FROM THE CONTROL GROUP ON WRITTEN MEASURES OF KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES. HOWEVER, THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS STUDY IS THE DEMONSTRATION OF MARKED, SIGNIFICANT COMPETENCE IN APPLYING BEHAVIOR THERAPY OF THE TRAINED PROBATION OFFICERS IN COMPARISON TO THE CONTROL GROUP OFFICERS. THE AUTHORS ARGUE THAT THE RESULTS OF THIS STUDY SHOW THAT TRAINING IN SPECIFIC BEHAVIORS AND DEMONSTRATION OF THE RESULTANT APPLICATION OF THE KNOWLEDGE SHOULD BE INCORPORATED IN FUTURE TRAINING PROGRAMS.
