THIS ARTICLE EXAMINES THE FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE LARGE PART OF A POLICE OFFICER'S DUTIES COMPRISED OF FAMILY CRISIS INTERVENTION AND DOMESTIC DISPUTES, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF POLICE TRAINING IN THIS AREA.
Abstract
SOCIAL FACTORS WHICH PLACE THE POLICE OFFICER IN THE MIDST OF FAMILY CONFLICTS ARE DISCUSSED, BUT THE BULK OF THE ARTICLE COMPARES THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A FAMILY CRISIS TRAINING PROGRAM FOR POLICE IN NEW YORK CITY IN 1967 WITH A SIMILAR PROGRAM CONDUCTED BY THE LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, POLICE DEPARTMENT. VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE TWO PROGRAMS ARE COMPARED: THEORY, SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS, TRAINING, FIELD OPERATION AND EVALUATION PROCEDURE, AND RESULTS. THE LOUISVILLE PROJECT WAS CONSIDERABLY MORE EFFECTIVE THAN THE NEW YORK PROJECT, AND THIS IS ANALYZED WITH RESPECT TO THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO TRAINING PROGRAMS....MSP
