DESCRIPTION OF THE INMATE EDUCATION PROGRAM AT THE WASHINGTON STATE REFORMATORY IN MONROE WHICH UTILIZES TELEVISION SETS AND AUDIO-VISUAL EQUIPMENT CONTAINED IN AN INNOVATIVE MOBILE CLASSROOM.
Abstract
ONE SECTION OF THE 12-FOOT BY 66-FOOT TRAILER IS DEVOTED TO HALF-HOUR VIDEOTAPES TO HELP RESIDENTS PREPARE FOR THE GENERAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT (GED) TEST, AND THE REMAINING AREA FEATURES A SOPHISTICATED 'HANDS-ON' SYSTEM OF 17 WORK-SAMPLING CARRELS THAT ALLOW STUDENTS TO EXPLORE 2,500 SKILL-RELATED OCCUPATIONS. (RESIDENTS OF THE REFORMATORY HAVE 14 VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO CHOOSE FROM, ALL BUT TWO OF WHICH ARE APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING.) FURTHER APPLICATION OF THE AUDIO-VISUAL EQUIPMENT IS PLANNED INVOLVING TAPINGS OF ON-CAMPUS COLLEGE COURSES FOR LATER VIEWING BY RESIDENTS....ELW
