This report presents a transcript of a 1992 panel discussion in which elected and appointed officials and prosecutors of environmental crimes discussed environmental laws, environmental law enforcement, and the use of multi- agency task forces to address the problem.
Abstract
Individual speakers described environmental crimes and law enforcement efforts related to urban landfills and the development of felony littering laws and other innovative offense definitions. Other panelists discussed local prosecutor support for urban community-based environmental law enforcement initiatives, interagency cooperation in law enforcement efforts, and the role of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The discussions noted that many of these offenses involve the illegal transportation and dumping of hazardous wastes across State lines. Questions, answers, and comments from participants
