A DESCRIPTION OF THE MANAGEMENT AND TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE TRANSFER TO THE WASHINGTON, D.C. CORRECTIONAL RECORDS INFORMATION SYSTEM (CRISYS).
Abstract
IN DISCUSSING THE MANAGEMENT-ORIENTED ASPECTS OF THE TRANSFER, THE AUTHORS DESCRIBE THE ORIGINAL LOUISIANA CORRECTIONAL INFORMATION SYSTEM, THE LOUISIANA EVALUATION OF THE CRISYS SYSTEM, AND PROCUREMENT OF COMPATIBLE COMPUTER HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE. THE GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS AND PLANNING FOR SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION ARE ALSO SUMMARIZED.THE TECHNICAL ASPECTS OUTLINED IN THIS ARTICLE INCLUDE SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION METHODOLOGIES, SYSTEM REDESIGN TO MATCH LOUISIANA'S NEEDS, AND A COMPARISON OF THE ORIGINAL CRISYS SYSTEM AND LOUISIANA'S CRISYS SYSTEM. IT WAS NOTED THAT TRANSFERRING A PROVEN SYSTEM LOWERED COSTS, REDUCED THE DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION, AND EDUCATIONAL TIME, AND MADE SYSTEM EVALUATION DATA AVAILABLE BEFORE IMPLEMENTATION WITHIN THE STATE. A DISADVANTAGE OF THIS APPROACH WAS LIMITATIONS ON HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SELECTION.
