The application of Bandura's social learning and social cognitive theories to the group treatment of adolescent sex offenders is described with respect to a program model that demonstrates how theory-driven practice methods can be developed.
Abstract
The rationale for early intervention is to treat, disrupt, and prevent the sexually offending behavior before it becomes a chronic or compulsive problem. The treatment aims to reeducate and resocialize the adolescent sex offender. This approach is being used in an outpatient program at Barnert Hospital Mental Health Clinic in Paterson, N.J. The group process begins with clearly stated rules and expectations. Treatment lasts for 1 year. In addition, adjunctive therapies to the specialized group may include other individual or family treatment techniques to address psychophysiological, psychiatric, and social issues. 26 references (Author abstract modified)
