A STUDY DESIGNED TO ASSESS THE INCIDENCE AND PERCEIVED CAUSES OF TREATMENT-CUSTODY ROLE CONFLICT IN COMMUNITY-BASED CORRECTIONAL WORKERS.
Abstract
THE STUDY ALSO HAD AS ITS OBJECTIVES TO DETERMINE THE MODES AND EFFECTS OF ATTEMPTED RESOLUTION OF ROLE CONFLICT; AND TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTS OF ROLE CONFLICT ON EMPLOYMENT-RELATED ATTITUDES AND ON ROLE PERFORMANCE. SIXTY-THREE COUNSELORS FROM THE WORK RELEASE PROGRAM OF A LARGE MIDWESTERN STATE WERE ADMINISTERED QUESTIONNAIRES OF THEIR ATTITUDES AND PERCEIVED ROLE EXPECTATIONS DURING ON-SITE VISITS. ADDITIONAL DATA WERE COLLECTED FROM ADMINISTRATORS, SUPERVISORS, AND A SAMPLE OF WORK RELEASEES. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE GIVEN TO AID THE STAFF IN RESOLVING ROLE CONFLICT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
