Abstract
The Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) is an admission-based system, with these admissions not representing individuals. TEDS does not include all admissions to substance abuse treatment. It does include facilities that are licensed or certified by the State substance abuse agency to provide substance abuse treatment. Facilities reporting TEDS data are those that receive State alcohol and /or drug agency funds for the provision of alcohol and/or drug treatment services. This Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) report presents the results of the TEDS for the year 2000, as well as trend data for 1992-2000. Information is presented on the demographic and substance abuse characteristics of the approximately 1.6 million annual admissions to treatment for abuse of alcohol and drugs in facilities reporting to individual State administrative data systems. Report highlights include information on major substances of abuse, adolescent substance abuse, polydrug abuse, alcohol, heroin and other opiates, cocaine/crack, marijuana, methamphetamine/amphetamine and other stimulants, inhalants, and discharge data.
