REPORTS BY OFFICIALS AND PRACTITIONERS ON THEORETICAL APPROACHES USED IN PROVIDING TREATMENT IN JUVENILE INSTITUTIONS, ADULT PRISONS, PROBATION, AND COMMUNITY-BASED CORRECTIONS IN FRANCE.
Abstract
DISCUSSED IS THE USE OF OBSERVATION CENTERS WHICH PROVIDE DIAGNOSES OF JUVENILE DELINQUENTS PRIOR TO TREATMENT OR DECISIONS BY THE COURT REGARDING THEIR CASES. ALSO DISCUSSED IS THE IMPACT OF THE FAMILY AND SOCIAL MILIEUS ON THE TREATMENT OF JUVENILE DELINQUENTS IN INSTITUTIONAL AND COMMUNITY-BASED SETTINGS. DESCRIBED ARE THE FUNCTIONS AND ORGANIZATION OF THE COURT-ATTACHED SOCIAL SERVICES FOR THE PROTECTION OF YOUTH. A SCHEME IS PRESENTED FOR MEASURING THE RELATIVE SIGNIFICANCE OF MAJOR SOCIAL CONCEPTS AMONG YOUNG ADULT OFFENDERS. REPORTS ON THE TREATMENT OF ADULT INMATES INCLUDE THE TREATMENT OF PSYCHOPATHIC OFFENDERS. A SECTION ON COMMUNITY-BASED TREATMENT OF OFFENDERS CONTAINS PAPERS BY A JUDGE FOR THE APPLICATION OF SENTENCES, A SENIOR PROBATION WORKER, AND A PSYCHIATRIST. THE FUNCTIONS AND PERSPECTIVE OF THESE PRACTITIONERS IN THE FRENCH SYSTEM ARE PRESENTED. --IN FRENCH
