This book presents theoretical perspective and practical suggestions for treatment of the neurologically and psychologically impaired juvenile sex offender.
Abstract
The book combines cognitive/behavioral, psychoanalytic, and neuropsychological constructs into practical guidelines for treating the juvenile sex offender. It delineates the population to be treated, focusing on the offender with neurological and psychiatric impairments, and presents an etiological theory for deviant sexual behavior, discussing much of the literature regarding sexual behavior and sexual deviance in the context of this theory. The book discusses the Bridges Program for working with neurologically impaired juvenile sex offenders as well as the Renaissance Program for dealing with offenders without neurological impairments. A separate chapter discusses milieu management and how to prevent and respond to some of the more common manipulative ploys used by juvenile sex offenders.
