Annotation
This report analyzes the juvenile arrest data reported in Annual Statistical Report (1961-1980) of the Honolulu Police Department of the City and County of Honolulu.
Abstract
It analyzes police arrests and dispositions of the past 20 years to ascertain the extent of arrests and to identify trends that may be occurring. Reflecting 1973 changes in the arrest categories due to the institution of the Hawaii Penal Code, more detailed analysis includes data from 1973 to 1980. Separate analysis is done of status offenses, designated as 'delinquent child' in the police department's statistical reports. The statistics show that juvenile arrests in the area increased by 33 percent between 1961 and 1980, but their pattern provides no clear picture of future trends. A total of 24 tables are supplied.
