Monthly data derived from the National Crime Survey national sample of individuals aged 12 to 19 were used to examine trends in the rate of victimization of juveniles in schools, homes, and streets or parks between 1974 and 1981.
Abstract
The relationship between in-school victimization rates and victimization rates outside of schools is analyzed using a variant approach to time series analysis called autoregressive moving average (ARMA). The statistical models are based on previous research on school victimization and an importation perspective on the source indicate that, while rates of school victimizations remained relatively stable throughout the reporting period juvenile victimization in other settings had significant effects on in-school victimization. The results are limited by the indirect examination of the sources of victimization and the aggregate nature of the National Crime survey data. 3 tables, 1 figure, and 15 references (Author abstract modified)
