Abstract
This guidebook was developed to assist Tribal law enforcement agencies who are considering implementing the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system. The guidebook addresses the concerns that Tribal agencies may have with implementing the system and the benefits it can provide to law enforcement efforts. The guidebook is divided into five main sections that focus on how Tribal agencies can get started using UCR: 1) Introduction presents an overview of CDCISTT (Criminal Data Collection and Information Sharing Training for Tribes), TJISS (Tribal Justice Information Sharing System), and the purpose of the guidebook; 2) What is UCR? contains valuable information about the history of UCR, and information on the two main ways of reporting UCR data - the Summary Reporting System and the National Incident Based Reporting (NIBRS); 3) The Benefits of UCR contains information about the potential advantages of reporting crime data using UCR; 4) How to Begin Reporting Your Crime Data presents information on the step-by-step process for implementing a UCR system; and 5) Conclusion contains a listing of free resources and free technical support available to Tribal law enforcement agencies.
