A DESCRIPTION OF A SYSTEM DEVELOPED AND BUILT BY THE U.S. ARMY NIGHT VISION LABORATORY AND SOME OF THE TESTING IT UNDERWENT, WITH A DISCUSSION OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT APPLICATIONS OF THIS SYSTEM.
Abstract
RECENT ADVANCES IN TELEVISION SYSTEM, BOTH IN TELEMETRY AND CLOSED CIRCUIT, HAVE MADE IT POSSIBLE TO UTILIZE TV FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT APPLICATIONS. THE DEVELOPMENT OF LOW LIGHT LEVEL TELEVISION CAMERAS, IN THE VISIBLE AND THE NEAR INFRA-RED SPECTRUM, HAVE ADVANCED TO THE POINT THAT THEY ARE DEPENDABLE AS A MEANS OF REMOTELY DETECTING, VERIFYING AND IDENTIFYING INTRUDERS. THE PERIMETER TELEVISION SYSTEM (PERTVS) DESIGN, OPERATIONS, EQUIPMENT, AND APPLICATIONS ARE DESCRIBED. IT IS STATED THAT PERTVS CAN BE USED IN SURVEILLANCE IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER REMOTE NON-IMAGING SENSORS AS A RECOGNITION AND IDENTIFICATION DEVICE. IT CAN ALSO BE USED AS A PRIMARY DETECTION DEVICE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
