Police agencies are implementing two-way wireless data communications in order to protect themselves and be more efficient; with two-way wireless data, patrol officers do not have to rely on congested radio frequencies or telephone lines to access the information they need.
Abstract
Two-way wireless data enable patrol officers to run local, State, and Federal database checks and free up dispatchers to handle urgent situations. A typical wireless data system consists of a portable computer loaded with application software and a radio modem. Some systems are installed permanently in patrol cars, either on the dashboard or on the floor, while others are portable. Wireless data applications in Los Angeles, Cleveland, St. Louis, and Des Moines are described. The service provider is the same in all four applications, RAM Mobile Data USA Limited Partnership.
