Abstract
One letter was received by the New York Times on Monday, April 24, 1995, from the self-designated Terrorist Group FC, claiming responsibility for the serial bombings that the FBI attributes to a single person or group in the case known as Unabom. The document is presented verbatim, with original spelling, emphasis, and punctuation. This letter states that the immediate goal of the bombings, which are directed at "specialists in technical fields" deemed to threaten freedom and quality of life, is "the destruction of the worldwide industrial system." The author states that "we hope to promote social instability in industrial society, propagate anti-industrial ideas and give encouragement to those who hate the industrial system." Also included in this article are excerpts from a manuscript sent to the New York Times in June 1995 by the suspect in the Unabom case. The author claims that the industrial system is encroaching on human freedom and is "permanently reducing human beings and many other living organisms to engineered products and mere cogs in the social machine." The manuscript concludes with this statement: "Until the industrial system has been thoroughly wrecked, the destruction of that system must be the revolutionaries' only goal."
