This 1981 annual report for the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI) describes the training programs and operational activities.
Abstract
In its 20 years of existence, UNAFEI has sought to meet the needs of the region in the fields of crime prevention and treatment of offenders, particularly those related to the training of personnel at the policymaking and executive levels. During 1981, the primary activities of the Institute were seminar and training courses. A regular international training course and one international seminar were held, with 59 government officials from 19 countries participating. The theme of the seminar was crime prevention and sound national development, and the training course focused on an integrated approach to effective juvenile justice administration. Joint seminars were held in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Other activities were research, information services, and cooperation with related institutes and alumni associations. In 1982, UNAFEI anticipates completing its new building, providing more training opportunities, and expanding its services as a documentation center and clearinghouse in the field of crime prevention and treatment of offenders. The appendixes list the names, countries, and occupational positions of those who participated in the training programs.
