This manual aims to help community organizations improve the planning and management of prevention programs focused on underage alcohol consumption, as well as consolidate and focus their underage drinking prevention interventions.
Abstract
The manual’s first section presents a monthly planner to aid organizations in focusing their underage alcohol prevention efforts. A Call to Action component in each month provides ideas for activities that may be appropriate for that month’s theme. Themes include alcohol and family life, alcohol and relationships, alcohol and popular culture, and others. Each month’s material also includes facts that the organization can use in their speeches, letters, brochures, or public service announcements. The manual’s second section focuses on the promotion of prevention efforts through the development of an effective prevention program, attraction of partners to strengthen activities, and garnering notice of the prevention efforts. It offers suggestions for targeting messages, selecting media outlets, making contact with reporters and editors, and promoting healthy lifestyles through special events. Checklists, footnotes, sample press releases and other materials, and a list of organizations and Internet resources
