These 14 papers present multidisciplinary perspectives on issues related to the causes, nature, incidence, identification, and provision of services for youths who are troubled or troubling to families, schools, communities, and professionals because of their deviant behavior, poor school performance, or other problems.
Abstract
An overview notes that discussions of these youths and efforts to provide services to them are often limited by disciplinary, professional, or theoretical boundaries and emphasizes the need for collaborative relationships and responses among different fields. Additional papers present the perspectives of attorneys, educators, and criminal justice officials on the nature and needs of these youths. Further papers focus on the nature of the relationships between youths and the social contexts and individuals in their daily lives and on the role of institutions and social and cultural forces in contributing to the creation, maintenance, and reduction of troubling behavior. Tables, figures, chapter reference lists, subject and author indexes, and author biographies.
