Based on statistics collected through the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, New York City reported an increase of 6.8 percent in index offenses in the period between January and June 1992, compared to the same period in 1991. There was a 5.1 percent decrease in index crimes Statewide during the same period.
Abstract
The data showed a decline of 3.7 percent in violent crime Statewide; robbery was the most frequently occurring violent crime. New York City, accounting for 83 percent of the violent crimes in the sample, reported a decrease of 5.3 percent in such crimes. However, Upstate agencies reported that violent crimes increased 4.8 percent. Larceny was the most frequently occurring property crime. New York State, accounting for 62 percent of all property crimes in the sample, reported a decline of 7.3 percent, while Upstate jurisdictions reported a 2.3 percent decrease. Statewide, property crimes decreased 5.5 percent in the first half of 1992, compared to the same period in 1991.
