DATED NOVEMBER 1973, THIS REPORT PRESENTS THE FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS RESULTING FROM A STUDY OF THE MOST ADVANTAGEOUS APPROACH TO CONSOLIDATING SOME FUNCTIONS OF THE CRESTON POLICE AND UNION COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.
Abstract
UNION COUNTY HAS A POPULATION OF 13,557 AND COVERS A 426 SQUARE MILE AREA IN SOUTH CENTRAL IOWA. CRESTON, THE COUNTY SEAT, HAS A POPULATION OF 8,240. AREAS OF CONSOLIDATION CONSIDERED IN THIS REPORT WERE LAW ENFORCEMENT FACILITIES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND RECORDS SYSTEMS. WORK PERFORMED IN THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE EFFORT INCLUDED ESTABLISHMENT OF DESIGN CRITERIA FOR THE FACILITIES, PREPARATION OF FLOOR PLANS, AND DEVELOPMENT OF FACILITY LAYOUTS. THESE LAYOUTS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT. EXISTING COMMUNICATIONS CAPABILITIES OF THE TWO AGENCIES ARE DESCRIBED, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CONSOLIDATION OF COMMUNICATIONS ACTIVITIES ARE GIVEN. THE EXISTING RECORDS SYSTEMS OF THE DEPARTMENTS ARE ALSO DESCRIBED, AND REQUIREMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CONSOLIDATION OF THE RECORDS SYSTEM AND REPORTING SYSTEM ARE PRESENTED.
