This volume presents a report of the activities of the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute (UNAFEI) for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders during 1996, its planned activities for 1997, and papers and other reports from two UNAFEI international training courses conducted during 1996.
Abstract
UNAFEI's main activity was training through courses and seminars. Additional activities included technical cooperation with other organizations in crime prevention and crime control training programs, research on international cooperation in criminal justice and the criminal justice systems of the Asia-Pacific region, information collection and dissemination, and publications. Activities in each of these areas are planned for 1997. The volume also includes 18 papers from UNAFEI's international training course on the improvement of the handling of offenders through the strengthening of community-based corrections. The final section presents 18 papers from UNAFEI's international training course on international cooperation in extradition, legal assistance, counterterrorist efforts, law enforcement, evidence collection, prisoner transfers, the handling of foreign offenders and other areas of criminal justice administration.
