This report provides background information to the international community on the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Program Network, an international network that consists of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Branch of the United Nations, as well as a number of interregional and regional institutes around the world.
Abstract
The Network has been developed in response to the request of the international community for assistance. Its components provide a variety of technical assistance services within the framework of the United Nations Program, including advisory services, the exchange of information, research, training, and public education. Component organizations include the Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, the Australian Institute of Criminology, the International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Science, and the Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders. Additional components include the Arab Security Studies and Training Center, the European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control affiliated with the United Nations, the African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, the International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Program, the International Center for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policies, and the International Center for the Prevention of Crime.
