This report describes the activities and accomplishments of the research and training component of the United Nations crime prevention and criminal justice program during 1996 and discusses the organization's planned activities for 1997.
Abstract
The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) was established in 1968 and cooperates with other components of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Program Network. Priority areas for research and technical cooperation during 1996 included national and transnational crime, economic crime, environmental offenses, crime prevention in urban areas, juvenile delinquency, violent crime, improving efficiency and fairness in the management and administration of criminal justice. UNICRI also managed a specialized library and managed a publication exchange service. Planned activities for 1997 include participation in the 6th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, organizing the 12th annual coordination meeting of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Program Network, participation in a subcommittee related to international drug abuse control, and research and technical cooperation in priority areas.
