United Nations member countries were surveyed in 1994 regarding the desirability of preparing and adopting United Nations minimum rules on the administration of criminal justice, as covered in the draft minimum rules prepared by an expert commission.
Abstract
By April 25, 1995, 27 countries had responded to the surveys. In addition, five interregional and regional institutes provided comments. Results revealed diverse views on the subject. Some countries considered such rules to be a matter deserving high priority; others stated that it would be premature for the United Nations to start developing norms and standards in another area. Responses came from Argentina, Austria, Bahrain, Belarus, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Cyprus, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Ghana, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Namibia, new Zealand, Oman, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.
