This brochure provides a brief overview of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and its organizations, with emphasis on the work of the attorneys employed during 1986-1987 by each of the organizations.
Abstract
The section on attorney employment provides application and general employment information (eligibility, fringe benefits, promotions, and performance appraisal) and describes the Honor and Summer Law Intern Programs. Courses offered by the Office of Legal Education also are described, including the criminal and civil trial and the appellate advocacy courses. The work of DOJ, its 16 offices, 7 divisions, and 3 boards is described. The bulk of the work is performed by 93 U.S. Attorneys and their staffs. Their work is guided and assisted by attorneys in several legal divisions. However, attorneys in Antitrust, Civil, Civil Rights, Land and Natural Resources, and Tax Divisions conduct the majority of litigation in their respective areas of responsibility. The principal functions and workloads, as well as the number of attorneys employed, are described for each of the Department's organizations. Listings of field office locations and of U.S. Attorneys' Offices are provided. Photographs.
