DESCRIPTION OF UNDERGRADUATE, MASTERS AND DOCTORAL PROGRAMS, SERVICE TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE, AND RESEARCH PROJECTS IN CORRECTIONAL PSYCHOLOGY.
Abstract
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CENTER IS TRACED, AND THE OBJECTIVES OF TRAINING PSYCHOLOGISTS FOR THE JUSTICE SYSTEM AND DEVELOPING A MODEL FOR OTHER UNIVERSITIES ARE LISTED. DESCRIPTIONS OF EACH PROGRAM ARE GIVEN. THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM INVOLVES A PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR WITH CORRECTIONAL PSYCHOLOGY COURSES AND FIELD PLACEMENT IN A JUSTICE SETTING. THE MASTERS PROGRAM EMPHASIZES APPLICATION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SKILLS SUCH AS BEHAVIORAL PRINCIPLES OR HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS TO THE JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND ALSO PROVIDES FIELD EXPERIENCE. THE DOCTORAL PROGRAM TRAINS TEACHERS, RESEARCHERS, ADMINISTRATORS AND TREATMENT SPECIALISTS FOR WORK IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AS PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGISTS. SERVICE AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES OF THE CENTER, INCLUDING THE ALABAMA SYMPOSIA ON JUSTICE AND THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES AND THE EXTENSION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES TO AREA JUSTICE AGENCIES, ARE LISTED. THE APPENDED MATERIALS INCLUDE COURSE OFFERINGS IN CORRECTIONAL PSYCHOLOGY, MASTERS, AND DOCTORAL ENTRANCE AND DEGREE REQUIREMENTS, RELATED NEWS ARTICLES, AND SAMPLE COURSE OUTLINES.
