Intended for elementary and junior high school audiences, the film makes the connection between shoplifting and personal loss and raises questions about values in a dramatic form.
Abstract
The film shows two boys, ages 8 and 10, who can not keep up with an older group while 'dirt riding' through a park. The boys are also shown exploring a bike shop to see what is available. After finding that bad tires are causing their problem, they hide their bikes under bridge tunnel and shoplift two tires from the store for better traction. Returning to the tunnel, however, they find that their bikes have been stolen. Viewers are encouraged to reach their own conclusions concerning the loss to the boys which parallels the loss to the storekeeper. The film is based, in part, on the assumption that the first illegal act of a young person may well be shoplifting.
