Abstract
The information is designed for those who need more knowledge about the mental and physical effects of these substances and about associated issues such as drug testing, treatment, and drug abuse prevention. The authors are the director of the Haight-Ashbury Drug Detox Clinic and the author and director of documentaries and educational films. A section on the general effects of psychoactive drugs is followed by chapters that explain the specific effects of stimulants, opiates, sedatives, alcohol, hallucinogens, inhalants, and other drugs. Additional sections examine issues related to drug use among youth, the elderly, students, employees, and others. They also explain theories of addiction and approaches to treatment.
