Abstract
THE URBAN CRIME PROBLEM IN BRAZIL IS A RESULT OF MASSIVE MOVEMENTS OF POPULATION FROM THE COUNTRYSIDE INTO THE CITIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE RAPID INDUSTRIALIZATION OF THE COUNTRY OVER THE LAST DECADE. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE COORDINATION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES' EFFORTS, DECENTRALIZATION OF UNITS IN DENSELY POPULATED AREAS, AND INCREASED POLICE PATROLS.
