THE POSITION AND EFFECT OF URBAN GUERRILLA MOVEMENTS OPERATING WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF DEMOCRATIC SOCIETIES IS STUDIED USING EXAMPLES IN URUGUAY, FRANCE, AND ULSTER.
Abstract
SINCE EACH OF THESE EXAMPLES PROVIDES EVIDENCE OF TRADE UNION INVOLVEMENT IN TERROR CAMPAIGNS, THE POTENTIAL POSITION OF THE BRITISH TRADE UNIONS IS CONSIDERED AND THEN CONTRASTED AGAINST THEIR ALLEGIANCE TO THE EXISTING ORDER. THE RISE OF TERRORIST GROUPS WITHIN THE NATIONALIST RANKS OF WALES AND SCOTLAND, AND THE EXISTING DISSATISFACTION OF THE COLORED MINORITIES, ARE ALSO CONSIDERED. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE LIKELIHOOD OF FULL GUERRILLA WARFARE IN BRITAIN IS REMOTE. HOWEVER, THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE COUNTRY'S ECONOMIC DIFFICULTIES COULD INCREASE, AND THAT DISSATISFACTION COULD LEAD TO AGITATION, PROTEST, AND LIMITED GUERRILLA ACTIVITY IN URBAN AREAS TO ESTABLISH A WORKERS' COOPERATIVE AS AN ALTERNATIVE GOVERNMENT.
