This strategic plan provides an overview of the problems and challenges faced by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), including its future goals and objectives.
Abstract
The DOJ Strategic Plan FY 2003-2008 updates the earlier strategic plan (2002), and provides a comprehensive, realistic, multiyear plan for carrying out the Departments' mission. This strategic plan promotes the following goals of the Department: to prevent terrorism and promote America's security; enforce Federal laws and represent the rights and interests of the American people; assist State, local, and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence; and ensure the fair and efficient operation of the Federal justice system. The publication is divided into four sections. Chapter 1, gives a brief account of the major themes underlying the strategic goals and , including some of the key issues likely faced in the years ahead; chapter 2, sets forth the goals, objectives, strategies, and outcome goals for the next 5 years; chapter 3, describes key programs and initiatives, including the Attorney General's Management Initiatives and the President's Management Agenda, that support the mission; and chapter 4, describes the role of program evaluations within the components of DOJ and provides a schedule of ongoing and planned evaluations.
