The Colorado legislature is on the verge of passing authorizing legislation to enable the use of closed-circuit television in Colorado jails and courts.
Abstract
Colorado's enabling legislation will contribute to an explosive growth of the use of closed-circuit television in its jails and courts. The use of closed-circuit television for arraignments, bond and motion hearings, probation evaluations, and sentencing is a partial solution to the chronic jail overcrowding. Local law enforcement agencies should pursue the adoption of enabling legislation. Statutes or court rules currently are in effect in Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, and Missouri.
