THE PROMIS (PROSECUTOR'S MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM) SYSTEM OF WASHINGTON (DC) IS BEING TESTED FOR ITS ABILITY TO PREDICT RECIDIVISM BASED ON DEMOGRAPHIC AND CRIME SERIOUSNESS INFORMATION TAKEN AT THE FIRST ARREST.
Abstract
THREE TYPES OF DEPENDENT VARIABLES WILL BE USED TO ASSIGN PRIORITIES TO PROSECUTION EFFORTS TOWARD THOSE LIKELY TO RECIDIVATE. THEY INCLUDE COUNTS OF THE NUMBER OF REARRESTS, REPROSECUTIONS, AND RECONVICTIONS OF A SAMPLE GROUP; MEASURES OF WHETHER A PERSON RECIDIVATES BY BEING REARRESTED, REPROSECUTED, OR RECONVICTED WITHIN A GIVEN PERIOD; AND MEASURES OF OFFENSE SERIOUSNESS.
