This chapter reviews the American medico-legal system in relation to the criminal defense attorney, relates the principles of forensic odontology and anthropology in identification of unknown victims, explains time of death and injury determination, and delineates characteristics of various types of wounds.
Abstract
Discussed in detail are firearms injuries, including gunshot wounds, shotgun wounds, rifle wounds, and other missile wounds. Also covered are stabbing and incised wounds, blunt force injuries, drowning, and hanging and strangulation. Rape and other sex crimes are discussed in terms of examination of the female, examination of the suspected assailant, examination of materials, and the investigative approach to rape. Toxicology and acute chronic alcoholism are the final topics of the chapter. Tables and over 50 footnotes are provided.
