RESULTS OF A STUDY OF THE USE OF ANTIPSYCHOTIC DRUGS, DERIVED FROM THE PHENOTHIAZINE CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS, AT THE MEDICAL CENTER FOR FEDERAL PRISONERS IN SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI, SINCE 1972.
Abstract
THE DRUGS INCLUDE THORIZINE, STELAZINE, PROLIXIN, MELLARIL, AND PERMITIL - ALL OF WHICH ARE CONSIDERED TO BE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. INFORMATION IS PROVIDED ON THE COST OF THE DRUGS PURCHASED, THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS TREATED, THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS RECEIVING DOSAGE IN EXCESS OF MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED DOSAGES, THE LENGTHS OF CONFINEMENT VERSUS LENGTHS OF TREATMENT. MEDICATION ADMINISTERED IS COMPARED TO PSYCHIATRIC DIAGNOSES.
