This article provides a review of the literature on Rorschach, discusses the importance of incorporating Rorschach data in the assessment process, and offers two case examples showing how Rorschach data are integrated in forensic treatment planning and monitoring.
Abstract
Literature presents the Rorschach as a psychometrically well-established tool and when appropriately used, is well suited for the tasks of treatment planning and monitoring within forensic settings. It also suggests that a patient’s characteristic problem-solving approaches, defensive operations, and his/her relatedness to self and others are beneficial points of focus when applying Rorschach data to forensic treatment planning. Rorschach has the capacity to bypass volitional processes to enable observation and quantification of personality processes making it valuable in forensic applications. Rorschach data help identify appropriate targets of behavior change. The interpersonal and situational dynamics embedded in forensic treatment situations may be more clearly seen through Rorschach assessment, thereby enabling the establishment of therapeutic aims and avoiding pitfalls. Two cases are presented to illustrate how the Rorschach facilitates treatment planning and monitoring. The first case involved a man charged with assaulting a peace officer and case two discussed a woman charged with attempted aggravated assault. References
