THE RESULTS OF SURVEYS OF THE TYPES OF SIDEARMS CARRIED BY CALIFORNIA LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND THE NUMBER OF OFFICERS KILLED BY SUSPECTS USING THE OFFICERS' OWN WEAPONS ARE INTERPRETED.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR, IN INTERPRETING THE STUDY RESULTS, PROPOSES THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS SHOULD CARRY SEMI-AUTOMATIC SIDEARMS BECAUSE THEY REQUIRE TRAINING IN OPERATION, UNLIKE TRADITIONAL POLICE SERVICE REVOLVERS THAT CAN BE FIRED WITHOUT SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE. THEREFORE, IT WOULD BE MORE COMPLICATED FOR A SUSPECT TO KILL AN OFFICER WITH THAT OFFICER'S WEAPON IF IT WERE A SEMI-AUTOMATIC....TWH
