REPORT, DATED JANUARY 1974, OF A REVIEW OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACTIVITIES IN THE COUNTY AND AN ASSESSMENT OF THE FEASIBILITY OF REGIONALIZING ANY PROPOSED CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES OR SERVICES.
Abstract
THIS CONSULTANTS' REVIEW ENTAILED AN ANALYSIS OF DEFENDANT CHARACTERISTICS, COURT CASELOAD, AND EXISTING CRIMINAL JUSTICE RESOURCES AND PROGRAMS. THE ANALYSIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY THE FOLLOWING: COLLECTION OF THE REQUISITE DATA, ANALYSIS OF THE DATA, AND AN ONSITE VISIT. SURVEY DATA WAS COMPILED FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS, INCLUDING INFORMATION ON THE NUMBER OF PERSONS PROCESSED, COMMITTED, AND RELEASED; PRISONER CHARACTERISTICS; AND THE TYPES OF SENTENCES IMPOSED AND THEIR RELATIVE FREQUENCY. INCLUDED IN THE TEXT IS INFORMATION ON CURRENT OPERATIONAL FACILITIES, RECOMMENDED SHORT-RANGE IMPROVEMENTS, THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, AND OTHER AREAS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS IN UTAH COUNTY. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT A REGIONAL CORRECTIONAL CENTER IN UTAH COUNTY COUPLED WITH AN IMPROVED AND EXPANDED RANGE OF DIAGNOSTIC, TREATMENT, AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS WOULD RESULT IN THE MOST EFFECTIVE IMPROVEMENT IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS FORMS PRESENTING THE SURVEY DATA THAT WAS COLLECTED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)...KAP
