THIS STUDY EXAMINES UTAH'S PRESENT ADULT AND JUVENILE CORRECTIONS PROGRAMS, FACILITIES, AND ORGANIZATIONS WITH AN EYE TOWARD THE CREATION OF TWO NEW ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES EMBODYING ALL CORRECTIONAL FUNCTIONS & AUTHORITY.
Abstract
PRESENTLY EXISTING ADULT CORRECTIONAL COMPONENTS WHICH WOULD BE INCLUDED WITHIN A UNIFIED CORRECTIONS SYSTEM WOULD INCLUDE JAILS, PRETRIAL AND DIVERSION PROGRAMS, ADULT PROBATION AND PAROLE, STATE PRISON, AND COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS PROGRAMS. JUVENILE COMPONENTS WOULD INCLUDE JUVENILE DETENTION, PROBATION AND PAROLE, STATE INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL, AND DIVERSION PROGRAMS. ORGANIZATIONAL INCONSISTENCIES AND DEFICIENCIES WITHIN THE PRESENT SYSTEM ARE ASSESSED, OPERATIONAL ALTERNATIVES FOR A UNIFIED SYSTEM ARE PROVIDED, AND PRESENT STATUTES ARE REVISED TO COMPLY WITH THE RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES. THIS STUDY ALSO ASSESSES THE IMPACT OF DIVERTING STATUS OFFENDERS FROM THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM.
