THE UTILIZATION OF GROUP FOSTER HOMES FOR GIRLS IS DISCUSSED THROUGH A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DEVELOPMENT, OPERATIONS, STAFF, AND RESIDENT POPULATION OF A GIRL'S GROUP HOME ESTABLISHED IN STOCKTON (CA).
Abstract
THE GROWING NATIONWIDE USE OF GROUP FOSTER HOMES IS OUTLINED. AN OVERVIEW OF THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY TREATMENT PROJECT, WHICH SOUGHT TO STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF SUBSTITUTING INTENSIVE COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS FOR TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONALIZATION IS THEN PROVIDED. A GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE GIRLS HOUSED AT THIS STOCKTON GROUP HOME (WHICH WAS CALLED THE WILSON HOME) IS GIVEN. BRIEF HISTORIES OF THE ACTIONS AND PROGRESS OF EACH GIRL PLACED IN THE WILSON HOME ARE ALSO INCLUDED. THE LOCATION AND PHYSICAL LAYOUT OF THE GROUP, THE GROUP ACTIVITIES AND EXPOSURE TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD, AND COMMUNICATIONS AND CONTROLS IN THE GROUP HOME ARE DISCUSSED AS WELL. A DESCRIPTION OF THE BEHAVIOR TYPOLOGY SYSTEM USED TO CLASSIFY THE GROUP HOME RESIDENTS (THE INTERPERSONAL MATURITY SYSTEM) IS INCLUDED. A SUMMARY DISCUSSION ON THE BENEFITS AND PROBLEMS OF SUCH GROUP HOMES IS ALSO CONTAINED IN THIS REPORT.
