SPONSORED BY THE LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST AND THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SECTION OF THE SOCIETY OF AMERICAN FORESTERS, THE SYMPOSIUM BROUGHT TOGETHER FORESTERS, SOCIOLOGISTS, CRIMINOLOGISTS, ARCHITECTS, PARK PLANNERS, PSYCHOLOGISTS, LANDSCAPE TECHNICIANS, AND RECREATION TECHNICIANS TO DISCUSS THE EXTENT, NATURE, AND CONSEQUENCES OF VANDALISM IN THE PUBLIC PARKS AND FORESTS OF THE PACIFIC SOUTHWEST, AND TO EXPLORE MEANS OF PREVENTION AND ENFORCEMENT. THE 24 SYMPOSIUM PAPERS COVER THE DIMENSIONS OF THE VANDALISM PROBLEM, THE IMPACT OF VANDALISM ON PHYSICAL RESOURCES AND ON THE PUBLIC, PROBLEMS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONTROL THROUGH FACILITY AND SITE DESIGN, THE SOCIOPSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE OF VANDALS, AND THE POTENTIAL FOR SOCIAL CONTROL.
