Abstract
MOST OF THE LITERATURE INCLUDED FOCUSES ON JUVENILES AS VANDALS AND PRESENTS THE ISSUE FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE VICTIM; VANDALISM IS VIEWED AS A COMMUNITY-BASED PROBLEM THAT AFFECTS INDIVIDUALS AS WELL AS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS. CITATIONS FOCUSED ON VANDALISM IN CANADA AND IN ONTARIO IN PARTICULAR. HOWEVER, A GREAT MANY AMERICANS' WRITINGS ARE CITED, AS WELL AS MAJOR STUDIES DONE IN BRITAIN AND AUSTRALIA. THE BIBLIOGRAPHY IS SUBDIVIDED INTO SEVERAL SUBJECT AREAS: CAUSES OF VANDALISM AND THEORIES OF VANDALISM BEHAVIOR; VANDALISM PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION PROGRAMS, PARTICULARLY GENERAL COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, URBAN DESIGN IDEAS, AND POLICE PROGRAMS; AND CAUSES OR PREVENTION OF VANDALISM IN SCHOOLS AND ON CAMPUSES.
