LYING AND CHEATING AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF THESE BEHAVIORS TO THE PEPETRATOR AND THE VICTIM ARE THE TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS FILMSTRIP WITH AUDIOCASSETTE DIRECTED AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS.
Abstract
TWO SISTERS RECALL AN INCIDENT IN WHICH LYING ENDED THE FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN TWO BOYS; THEY TALK ABOUT WHY PEOPLE LIE, THE SERIOUSNESS OF LYING, LYING TO GET ONE'S WAY, BLAMING OTHERS FOR THINGS THAT WERE ONE'S FAULT, LYING BY STAYING SILENT WHEN SOMEONE ASKS WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR AN ACCIDENT, MAKING UP STORIES TO IMPRESS FRIENDS, AND CHEATING ON A TEST IN SCHOOL. THE FILMSTRIP SET EMPHASIZES THAT ALTHOUGH LYING AND CHEATING SEEM TO BE MINOR OFFENSES, THEY ARE SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE THEY CAN HURT PEOPLE'S FEELINGS, DEPRIVE OTHER PERSONS OF THEIR FREEDOM OF CHOICE AND THE RIGHT TO KNOW THE TRUTH, GIVE FALSE IMPRESSIONS WHICH CAN WORK AGAINST THE FORMING OF REAL FRIENDSHIPS OR DESTROY EXISTING FRIENDSHIPS, HURT THE LIAR'S CREDIBILITY, AND ARE UNFAIR TO THE PERSON BEING LIED TO OR USED IN A CHEATING INCIDENT. FEAR OF BEING CAUGHT AND PUNISHED FOR LYING AND CHEATING ARE ONLY SUPERFICIAL REASONS FOR NOT ENGAGING IN THIS BEHAVIOR. (DAG)
