RESULTS OF A STUDY IN WHICH THE BIOGRAPHICAL DATA AND REHABILITATION EXPERIENCES OF OVER 600 PRISON INMATES WERE COMPARED WITH PROGNOSTIC RATINGS MADE BY TEN VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION COUNSELORS.
Abstract
POST-PRISON FOLLOW-UP DATA WERE AVAILABLE FOR 163 OF THESE INMATES; THIS DATA SUPPORTED THE VALIDITY OF THE PROGNOSTIC RATINGS. NINE OF THE 60 CHARACTERISTICS AND EXPERIENCES STUDIED WERE SIGNIFICANTLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROGNOSTIC RATINGS. FOR EXAMPLE, THOSE INMATES WHO LIVED IN THE REHABILITATION CENTER, WHO RECEIVED MORE COUNSELING/THERAPY, OR WHO ATTENDED TRADE SCHOOL WERE JUDGED TO HAVE A BETTER POST-PRISON PROGNOSIS THAN THE OTHER INMATES. THIS PROGNOSTIC JUDGEMENT RELATED SIGNIFICANTLY TO POST-PRISON BEHAVIOR. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
