A DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT, AND SYSTEM FEATURES OF THE TOMPKINS COUNTY POLICE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM WHICH UTILIZES RADIO REPEATERS TO ALLOW CONSTANT PERSONAL CONTACT WITH ALL OFFICERS ON DUTY.
Abstract
THIS SYSTEM, FUNDED BY A GRANT FROM LEAA, SERVES SEVEN POLICE AGENCIES IN TOMPKINS COUNTY. FEATURES OF THE SYSTEM INCLUDE PORTABLE TRANSCEIVERS FOR FOOT PATROLMEN, THE USE OF POLICE VEHICLE RADIOS TO RELAY MESSAGES FROM PORTABLE TRANSCEIVERS, AND HIGH BAND VEHICULAR REPEATERS WHICH ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE MOBILE RADIOS. THE MOBILE RADIOS CAN FUNCTION IN A NORMAL MANNER WHEN IN THE REPEATER MODE OF OPERATION. THIS SYSTEM WAS FULLY IMPLEMENTED BY SEPTEMBER 1974.
