This survey measures the incidence and prevalence of behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of mortality and morbidity among Vermont youth.
Abstract
The report summarizes the results of a survey of a representative sample of 20 Vermont high schools and 26 middle schools, a total of 8,474 sampled students. Thirty-four of the sampled schools participated (74 percent), and 7,165 students (85 percent) completed usable questionnaires. The survey provides information that enables state officials to monitor trends in young people's health and risk behaviors; compare Vermont students with a national sample of students; and plan, evaluate, and improve community programs which prevent health problems and promote healthy behaviors. The report presents data on: (1) Injuries, Violence, and Safety: Physical Fighting, Weapons and Fear, Vehicle Safety, Suicide; (2) Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs; (3) Sexual Behavior; (4) Body Weight and Nutrition; (5) Physical Activity; and (6) Gambling.
