This article describes how the Vancouver Police Department is utilizing Versadex software applications (computer-aided dispatch, records management system, mobile report entry, and mobile data terminal) to deliver services more efficiently, accurately, and safely.
Abstract
In an effort to improve the delivery of computer-aided dispatch (CAD) services, the Province of British Columbia Police Chiefs got together and opted for a province wide records management system (RMS) with CAD and mobile field reporting. The Versaterm RMS system call Versadex was selected in 2001. Eventually, there was a complete integration of the Versadex suite of software applications RMS, CAD, mobile data terminal (MDT) and mobile report entry (MRE), known as Versadex PoliceCAD. One of the key benefits to the Versaterm product is the openness of the vendor and the constant desire for customer suggestion and improvement. CAD should interface with a RMS system, preferably of the same vendor and allow for full data browse and query. Today, more and more, commercial off-the-shelf CAD systems that are part of a vendor’s “software suite,” which includes an integrated RMS, MRE, and MDT, are being selected by law enforcement. This article discusses one such successful integration for law enforcement within the Vancouver Police Department.
